Timber Creek Men's Golf Club
General Meeting
March 5, 2008
Call to Order
- Phil Hart, President, called the meeting to order
at 8:30 am.
Quorum
- Gerry Lane reported that there were 55 members
present representing a quorum.
Minutes from previous
meeting
- Rodger Page, Secretary, noted several highlights
of the previous meeting. The
minutes were approved as submitted.
Treasurers Report
- Don Hug, Treasurer, reported that the balance for
all bank accounts was $16,120.47.
The Treasurer's Report was approved.
Hole in One
- Phil reported that there were no holes in one in
February. However a member
(John Ingram) stood and said that he had had one. Phil apologized and said that he
would check on why he had not been made aware of it.
Golf Course
- Jim Ferrin, Superintendent, reported on work in
several areas: Aeration will be March 17, 18, and 19, Pines, Lakes, Oaks
and will use large tines to remove cores. Will take more time to heal than in previous years. New bunker on #17 will be worked on,
trying to help the distressed red wood trees. A suggestion was made that the pampas grass in # 7
waste areas be removed. Jim
suggested taking that that be taken to the Golf Committee. Jim noted that he hoped to have
the yardage marking on sprinkler heads completed by the end of the fiscal
year.
Proshop
- Mark Gouger, Head Golf Professional, commented
that outside tournaments continue to be strong, but the Thunder Valley
event for the fall, has apparently died. He indicated that he tries very hard to have
outside tournaments in the afternoon.
- Mark reported on the proposed refurbishment of
the shop to enhance appearance and business. This is progressing through the system.
- This spring and summer we will see the "Timber
Creek Golf Academy". A series
of 3 day golf instruction schools. 12 hours of instruction with lunches, green fees,
and range balls for $599.00.
- Mark reported on March Madness in the proshop and
invited all to attend and buy.
- Mark then gave a demonstration and lesson on
"practice"
Committee Reports
- RAMP and Golf Committee: Joe Lavette, chair, invited
all to attend the Golf Committee meeting at 2:00 pm, noting that geese and
dress code would be discussed.
- Handicaps: Leroy Munoz reported on the "R"
indexes, noting that these are NCGA/USGA generated and result from 2 or
more tournament scores 3 strokes better than previous normal scores. An NCGA representative will here
be in March to update our computer software.
- Membership:
Roy Lloyd reporting for Jack Chittick announced that we now have
376 members. He asked that you try to keep Jack informed of your email
address through the Men's Club web site. Also, if you have questions
regarding your membership you can email Jack at TCMGC2@COMCAST.NET Please call him or email him if
you have friends that might be interested in our club.
- Rules: Phil and Rodger, reporting for Dick Mann,
described in some detail the rules involving water (yellow stakes) and
lateral (red stakes) hazards and the margin of the hazard. Of particular note: A ball is in the hazard when it
lies in or any part of it touches the hazard (margin). Phil also noted
that the drop area is to be used when taking a free drop from the flower
beds.
- Tournaments: Martin Wolf, chair, discussed the
Tournament payout Policy as adopted by the board at it last meeting. This policy will be part of the
Tournament Volunteer Package and will be posted.
- NCGA Tournaments: Chuck Krause reporting for Bill Aaberg reported that Chuck
Krause/ Bill Whitney & Rich Allison/Joey Mastrantonio would represent
TC in the Zone Tournament. He
also announced that the next NCGA event would be the Senior Net qualifying
on March 11th.
Chuck also announced that the Annual Foundation Tournament will be
June 6th, with a 7:30 am shotgun start. Tom Shively is chair.
- Travel Events: Dick Gilberg announced that there are 36 players signed
up for Auburn CC on April 28th. The next event is June 4th at Empire
Ranch. Entry Fee of $55.00
New Business
- Roy Lloyd reported that there is a new "Men's
Club Binder" in the residents room, with everything you have always wanted
to know about the Men's Golf Club.
- Phil reported on the policy for winter rules
November 1st through March 31st as adopted at the
last board meeting.
Old Business
- Phil noted that the Home and Home with Lincoln is
dead for now as there were no mutually agreeable dates. Possible event with Lincoln Hill
here in August, but no home and home.
- Phil discussed the seemingly lack of attendance
and said that he would send a reminder prior to the next meeting to see if
that would help. He also
noted that the sweets were not provided due to the high cost.
Door Prizes: Several
door prizes were given out. The
$25.00 gift card was won by an "undisclosed recipient" because I did not get
his name down.
