Timber Creek Men's Golf Club

General Meeting

 

July 2, 2008

 

Call to Order

Phil Hart, President, called the meeting to order at 8:30 am.

 

Quorum

Phil reported that there were 76 members present representing a quorum.

 

Golf Course

Troy Thompson, Superintendent, reported on work in several areas, in particular the work between #12 and 18 to alleviate a silt/drainage problem in the creek bed between the holes.  Troy commented on a number of other issues that are on going such an irrigation control replacement, fungus on various greens, thatching of green, virticutting, crab grass control and normal maintenance issues.

           

Several questions were raised by members regarding particular issues in particular the sudden appearance of the algae in the ponds on #9.  This is caused by the city water supply being redone.

Special Guests

Phil Introduced Angie Dixon, Director of Competitive Activities for 1st Tee of Greater Sacramento.  Angie gave a presentation on the history and reason for the 1st Tee program and its meaning to the over 3000 youth that participate in the program each year.  The program is for youth development using golf as a vehicle to teach and develop life skills. Phil then introduced Beau Zastrow and Tim Kelly, two Jr. Golfers that Angie had brought with her.  Each spoke about their own development and the meaning of core values of respect, perseverance, being on time, and the experience gained from participating in golf competitions.    

           

Proshop

Mark Gouger, Head Golf Professional, commented on the anticipated refurbishment of the shop to enhance appearance and business.  Work should begin August 1st with business being conducted from a trailer.  Expected completion is August 15th with a grand reopening. In the meantime there will be number of sales to reduce inventory and a grand reopening sale at the completion of the refurbishment

Mark also reported that the Jr/Sr Scholarship Tournament to be held July 18th and that sign-ups are being taken.  Cost is a donation of $25.00 to the scholarship fund plus green fees and $20.00 for lunch which will also pay for the Jrs. Lunches.

 

Minutes from previous meeting

Rodger Page, Secretary, and Phil Hart noted several highlights of the previous meeting, May 2nd.  The minutes were approved as submitted.

 

 

Treasurers Report

Phil Hart reporting for Don Hug, Treasurer reported that the balance for all bank accounts was $18,094.45.  Phil also commented on several income/expense. The TreasurerŐs Report was approved.

 

Hole in One

Phil recognized Will Roth who aced the Sierra Pines number 8, however, since he did not have a member of the menŐs club as a witness would not be eligible for the $50.00 award.  Phil said that he would get him a flag.  

 

Committee Reports

Old Business

Phil Hart reported on plans for the Sun City Cup with Lincoln Hills.  This event will be August 15th, with 50 players from each club.  The start will be a 7:30 shotgun with lunch and prizes awarded following play.  Fee will be $27.00 for Timber Creek players.

Phil announced the proposed Member/Guest scheduled for September 12th with both handicap and non handicap flights.

Rodger and Phil also talked about the 1st Tee Championship September 13th and asked for volunteers for shuttle of players and spotters.

Sweeps.  Phil Hart reported that of 19 Sweeps, there had been an average of 56 players/week with a total of 79 winners with 3 winning 5x, 6 winning 4x, 6 winning 3x, 23 winning 2x and 41 winning 1x.  A question was asked about those that had not won even once and Phil said he did not have that information.

 

Door Prizes:  Several door prizes were given out.  The $25.00 gift card was won by Bill Mathews.
