Timber Creek Men's Golf Club

General Meeting

July 2, 2008

Call to Order

Phil Hart, President, called the meeting to order at 8:30 am.

Quorum

Phil reported that there were 76 members present representing a quorum.

Golf Course

Troy Thompson, Superintendent, reported on work in several areas, in particular the work between #12 and 18 to alleviate a silt/drainage problem in the creek bed between the holes. Troy commented on a number of other issues that are on going such an irrigation control replacement, fungus on various greens, thatching of green, virticutting, crab grass control and normal maintenance issues.

Several questions were raised by members regarding particular issues in particular the sudden appearance of the algae in the ponds on #9. This is caused by the city water supply being redone.

Special Guests

Phil Introduced Angie Dixon, Director of Competitive Activities for 1^st Tee of Greater Sacramento. Angie gave a presentation on the history and reason for the 1^st Tee program and its meaning to the over 3000 youth that participate in the program each year. The program is for youth development using golf as a vehicle to teach and develop life skills. Phil then introduced Beau Zastrow and Tim Kelly, two Jr. Golfers that Angie had brought with her. Each spoke about their own development and the meaning of core values of respect, perseverance, being on time, and the experience gained from participating in golf competitions.

Proshop

Mark Gouger, Head Golf Professional, commented on the anticipated refurbishment of the shop to enhance appearance and business. Work should begin August 1^st with business being conducted from a trailer. Expected completion is August 15^th with a grand reopening. In the meantime there will be number of sales to reduce inventory and a grand reopening sale at the completion of the refurbishment

Mark also reported that the Jr/Sr Scholarship Tournament to be held July 18^th and that sign-ups are being taken. Cost is a donation of $25.00 to the scholarship fund plus green fees and $20.00 for lunch which will also pay for the Jrs. Lunches.

Minutes from previous meeting

Rodger Page, Secretary, and Phil Hart noted several highlights of the previous meeting, May 2nd. The minutes were approved as submitted.

Treasurers Report

Phil Hart reporting for Don Hug, Treasurer reported that the balance for all bank accounts was $18,094.45. Phil also commented on several income/expense. The Treasurer’s Report was approved.

Hole in One

Phil recognized Will Roth who aced the Sierra Pines number 8, however, since he did not have a member of the men’s club as a witness would not be eligible for the $50.00 award. Phil said that he would get him a flag.

Committee Reports

• Travel Events: Dick Gilberg announced that there are 29 signed up for Teal Bend on July 28^th. Dick also noted that the Tuesday hole assignments are back up un the web
• Rules: Dick Mann, Chair, reported that everything was pretty quiet. He did note that for the last tournament, the hazards had been marked with lines and that as these lines disappear, the hazard definition will be the line of sight between stakes. The water line is not the definition of the hazard. A question was asked in regards to putting off of the green, can the flagstick be used when returning to the green, and the answer is yes.
• Dick also commented on a ball being hit over the water on the left side of #9 and being lost in the flower bed. If it is virtually certain by your playing partners that the ball is in fact in the flower bed, relief may be taken from the flower bed, with no penalty, not nearer the hole.
• Dick then commented on a situation on #8 near the green. There is an area of the flower bed that is out side the hazard, between the hazard and the sidewalk where it is not possible to take a drop. This will be studied further and a solution provided at the next meeting.
• Membership: Phil, reporting for Jack Chittick, announced that we now have 382 members.
• RAMP and Golf Committee: Joe Lavette, Chair noted that RAMP will continue this month. The Golf Committee today will be discussing golf Course ADA requirements.
• NCGA Tournaments: Bill Aaberg reported that Martin Wolf had shown up at the Sr. Net Tournament. Also that the Sr. 4 ball event regional qualification would be at Teal Bend, August 7^th. Teams of Jim Knight and Tom McHugh and Ed Lick and Don Yorston would be representing Timber Creek.
• Handicaps: Paul Wilmoth reported that new manuals for the period 2008-2011 are available and he will be reporting on changes at the next meeting.
• Tournaments: Martin Wolf, Chair, discussed the Member/Member Classic June 24and 25 and felt that it had been very successful. Lots of nice compliments. Next Tournament is the Firecracker Classic. 4 person 3 best ball event with the committee making up the 4somes.

Old Business

Phil Hart reported on plans for the Sun City Cup with Lincoln Hills. This event will be August 15^th, with 50 players from each club. The start will be a 7:30 shotgun with lunch and prizes awarded following play. Fee will be $27.00 for Timber Creek players.

Phil announced the proposed Member/Guest scheduled for September 12^th with both handicap and non handicap flights.

Rodger and Phil also talked about the 1^st Tee Championship September 13^th and asked for volunteers for shuttle of players and spotters.

Sweeps. Phil Hart reported that of 19 Sweeps, there had been an average of 56 players/week with a total of 79 winners with 3 winning 5x, 6 winning 4x, 6 winning 3x, 23 winning 2x and 41 winning 1x. A question was asked about those that had not won even once and Phil said he did not have that information.

Door Prizes: Several door prizes were given out. The $25.00 gift card was won by Bill Mathews.
