How could you not like the game of golf where it's okay to get teed off, tote a 6 iron, shoot birdies, and if you are under par it's a great day!

Tuesday shotgun start times remain at 8:00am and 12:30am and will continue through January, February and March. We are playing “Winter Rules” which means lift clean and place within 12” through the green, except in hazards. “Bumping” is a penalty stroke.

Lakes/Pines rotation day is the morning of Tuesday, January 27th. For those new to the club this is where we play the Lakes and Pine courses while the nine-holers play the Oaks. The posting computer will be defaulted to the Lakes/Pines blue tees for ease in posting your scores. Those playing the gold tees remember to scroll down. Those playing in the afternoon will play the Lakes/ Oaks as usual.

Your new officers for 2009 are Ray Zwemer, President, Joey Mastrantonio, Vice-President, Ed Steele, Treasurer, and Rodger Page, Secretary. The 2009 Governing Board member list is posted on our Bulletin Boards and the web site.

The weekly sweeps resumed after the holidays. Bring your $1 on Tuesdays to the Pro Shop when you check-in. There is a different format each Tuesday. After your round you must turn in your scorecard to the Pro Shop. Once the card is tabulated they will return them to the card drop to be checked by the Handicap Committee. Results are usually posted by Thursday in the Residents room behind the computer.

Congratulations to Art Harris who had a hole-in-one on January 3rd. Art aced #14 at Timber Creek using a 6-iron. He will be awarded his check and flag at the February 4th General Meeting.

The Valentines Day Tournament will be first of 15 exciting Tournaments planned by Co-Chairs Bill Souza and Ernie Bell. It is scheduled for Tuesday, February 10th. Cost is $10 per player. Tournament Directors are Joe Rodriguez and Jim Erskine. The format will be the same as last year. Pick your own foursome or enter as a single and be placed on a team if possible. Credit in the Pro Shop will be awarded to winning four-man teams, individual Low Net and Low Gross by flights…plenty of opportunities to win. Each team has a pink ball which is rotated through each player. When you lose the “pinky” team play ends but individual play (low net, low gross) continues. Sign-ups start on Tuesday, January 20 and continue Jan. 27th, Feb. 3rd and at the general meeting Feb.4th.

Five Travel Tournaments for 2009 are planned by Co-Chairs Dick Gilberg and Dick Maxey. These events are open to all club members and will begin in April. Travel dates and information will be presented at the general meetings and by e-mails, posters and the web site: http://www.scrgolf.com/home.htm.

After posting your score, remember to put your scorecards in the card drop after every round. You must post within 48 hours. Internet posting is allowed by our club. The Handicap Committee routinely checks score postings and will issue penalty scores to those who have not posted scores. Handicap Committee Co-Chairs, Paul Wilmoth and Jack Nold request that you clearly print first and last names on the card.

The first General Meeting for 2009 will be in the ballroom, Wednesday, February 4th. at 8:30am. The 2009 Budget will be presented and we will introduce Committee Chairs, and new members. Join us for coffee and sweets at 8:00am. And stay for the raffle at the end of the meeting.
