Congratulations to the winners of the just concluded Medal (Stroke) Play Championship: The new champion is Hank Derner, Second Flight: Rick Myhre, Third Flight: Sam Simpson, Fourth Flight: Herb Toms, Fifth Flight: John Rowley, Sixth (gold) Flight: Joe Rodante. Thanks to our Tournament Co-Chairs, Leon Dean and Bill Whitney and their Tournament Directors, Bob Yarrigle and David Smith for running this annual Trophy event. They made it more exciting by puting the flight leaders in the same foursome on the second day. Perfect weather and perfect course conditions thanks to our maintenance crew. Results are posted on the patio scoreboard. Payouts on the Bulletin Board.
The 12th Annual Putting Contest was held April 24th and the new putting champion and first time winner is Don Hug. He sunk a long putt on the 14th and final hole for the 2 - up victory over fellow competitor, George Rebholtz. Thanks to Tournament Director, Rodger Page and staff for a fun and exciting event.
We currently have 360 members in our club and the newest member is Wayne Silver. Welcome to all the new members and enjoy all the club activities. Rotation day this month for morning players is Tuesday, May 26 on the Lakes/Pines. The posting computer will be defaulted to Lakes/Pines Blue Tees that day for ease in posting.
There is no General Meeting in June. The next General Meeting is Wednesday, July 1st.
Gene Ballard has received his awards for a hole-in-one on number 14 with a pitching wedge on April 7. Way to go Gene!
Signups are underway for our popular Member-Member Classic 2009. Don’t miss this two-day event with many opportunities to score prizes. 7:30am Shotgun start on Tuesday June 9 and 1:00pm Shotgun on Wednesday, June 10. Entry Fee of $45.00 includes: BBQ luncheon on the patio followed by afternoon shootout (Horse Race) on Day 1.Two-man Teams. Pick your own partner. Differential of 10 strokes between partners. Different format every 9 holes. Details supplied at sign-up which are Tuesdays: May 19, 26 and June 2. Tournament Directors are Jim Knight and Dick Mann.
NCGA News: Despite coming close neither of our entrants advanced in the Senior Net at Mather G.C. on May 7. Next up is the East Sacramento Zone Regional Championship at Poppy Hills and the Bayonet Course on May 18th and 19th. Our 4-man team is Hank Derner, Tom Devitt, Ed Lick and Jim Knight. If they are successful they will go to the Zone Championship on August 31, September1 at Poppy Hills and Spyglass. Qualifying for the Senior Net 4-ball (Two-Man Teams) will be held at Timber Creek on June 2. The schedule (subject to change) for our inaugural NCGA Team Match Play is June 25, Timber Creek at Ancil Hoffman, July 9, Timber Creek at Swenson Park (Stockton), July 23 Timber Creek at Turkey Creek, July 30 Turkey Creek at Timber Creek., August 6 Ancil Hoffman at Timber Creek. Team members and alternates to be decided.
There are still openings (both 9-hole and 18-hole) for the Sun City Foundation Tournament on Friday, June 5. Your $60.00 entry fee includes:a tax credit for charitable donation , lunch,prizes and a chance to win some great awards in the drawing. Contact Rodger Page for details.
Sun City Cup:The
second annual tournament between Del Webb’s Sun City Lincoln Hills and Sun City
Roseville is at Lincoln Hills on Monday, June 22. The format is average team
net stroke play for the cup. Individual cash prizes for individual, flighted net scores. Closest-to-the-pin prizes. Entry fee
is $60.00 per player: includes golf, cart, range balls, continental breakfast
and BBQ lunch. The first 60 players to sign up and pay are assured of playing.
Sign up deadline is June 9th. Sign up cards are in the Pro Shop.

Fourth Annual SCR First Tee “High Five” Scholarship
Tournament: This is one of the most
enjoyable and worthwhile tournaments of the year. Four residents and one First
Tee junior play a scramble. (Co-ed) It’s fun just to watch the junior! Play 18
at Timber Creek or 9 at Sierra Pines. July 17th SG tee-off at
8:00am.followed by 1pm lunch and prizes on Timbers patio. Same entry fee as
last year…$45.00 plus green fees. This covers a $25.00 donation to First Tee,
lunch, juniors lunch, and prizes. Sign up starts June
1st, as a team or individual, in appropriate golf shop. Last year
there were 130 players plus other donations and we gave $4000 in scholarships.
Great kids, a great cause and even more important this year. The other event, The First Tee Regional Fall Championship, where
many of us volunteer to help is scheduled for September 12th.
That’s a lot of tournaments…a lot
