Congratulations to Dick Mann who got a hole-in-one at Sierra Pines on number 5 with a 4-Wood on June 25th! This was after several months off recovering from a knee injury.
More magic from Jerry Lundblad at hole number 4 on July 11, with a 4-iron. He aced it in front of 7 people (including yours truly) but only one (Bill Giglio) saw it go in! Signs of the ageing golfers. Congratulations Jerry!
Results of the Firecracker Tournament yesterday are just in. There were 92 players with a payout of $930.00. Leaders: The winning team with 191 was Martin Wolf, Herb Tom, Bob Davis and Al Cusimano. The “A” flight winners were Jack Anderson (77g) & Chuck Krause (66n). ÒBÕ flight Jerry Lundblad (84g) & Sam Simpson (68n*). ÒCÓ flight Bob Davis (85g) & Ray Zwemer (65n). Our NCGA 12-man team won the match at Swenson Park 19 points to 13. They were the beneficiaries of 6 points due to a forfeit as Swenson could only field a 10-man team. The next match is at Turkey Creek on Thursday, July 23. Team record is now one and one with 4 matches to play.
Things “heat up” next month with 3 tournaments scheduled. Our annual August Tournament is the historic battle of the North & South, scheduled for Tuesday August 18th, 7:30am shotgun. It’s a modified Ryder Cup format: Two-man best ball net, one point for front nine, one point for back nine and one point for total. Half point for ties. $10.00 entry fee. Winning Team takes all. Bill Hagopian and Ken Shroyer are Co-Tournament Directors. Signups start on July 28, August 4, at our General Meeting, Aug 5th, and on August 11.
The ÒHot August MixerÓ is hosted by the Women’s and Men’s Golf Clubs. Friday, August 14, 7:30 shotgun. Hot Texas scramble, a 4-person game (2 women and 2 men, one net ball from each). Fried Chicken Buffet luncheon and sweeps. $21. per person. (Green fees and cart not included). Get yourself a hot partner. The only requirement is he or she must have an active ghin number. (Must play to a maximum handicap, 36 for men & 40 for women). You can also set up your own foursome. If you need a partner or another couple to play with we will help. Diamond Oaks is the track for our Travel Event on Monday, August 24. 9:30 Tee times. $55 per person covers green fees, cart, prize fund by flights plus closest-to-the-pin. This is a good time to travel as Pines, Lakes and Oaks are being aerified 8/24 – 8/26.
Root for Ed Lick, Jim Knight, Chet Pabis and Kaz Seo who will play in the 2009 NCGA SR. FOUR-BALL NET at Ancil Hoffman on August 5th. If they qualify in the regional they advance to the Championship at Poppy Ridge Golf Course in Livermore.
