Timber Creek Men’s Golf Club
E-Bulletin
August 15, 2009
The Hot August Mixer on August 14, hosted by the Women’s and Men’s Golf Clubs, was a huge success. Another perfect weather day saw 32 teams (128 players) having fun on the golf course. This was followed by a delicious awards luncheon in the Ballroom. Half of the field received awards: There were 4 different team awards in 4 different flights. In addition there were two places awarded for closest-to-the-pin in both women and men categories on holes number 4 and 14. On hole # 7 there were two awards in both Women & Men’s categories for longest first putt made. Thanks: to the Pro Shop for collecting the entry fees, to the Tournament Directors who ran things so smoothly, Janet Smith, Roberta Daley, Ernie Bell and Ray Zwemer. And, of course the Catering Staff and Chef for the Southern fried chicken luncheon. The consensus was “Let’s do it again”…Same time next year!
General Bill Hagopian leads the North into the annual battle against General Ken Shroyer and the South on Tuesday, August, 18. at the 7:30am,
aptly named, shotgun start. Remember to wear Blue if you are on the North team and Red if you are on the South.
Our NCGA 12-man team trounced Swenson Park 29 to 7 on Thursday, August 13. After beating Ancil Hoffman the week before, this gave them a 4 win 2 loss record tied with Ancil Hoffman for first place. They were also tied with Ancil Hoffman in total wining points category. As of this writing, the NCGA had not resolved the tie breaker. Stay tuned. Both the NCGA Senior Four-Ball and Sacramento Zone Teams did not advance.
Led by Dick Gilberg and Dick Maxey, the Travel Event was played in intense heat at Dark Horse in Auburn on Monday, July 27. The course ran out of water on the back nine. Several carts broke down. A few players did not finish. But those that did finish were rewarded in the payout. These were posted on the bulletin. Subsequently Dark Horse sent free golf chits as compensation which were awarded to participants by a “random number generator”.
The next Travel Event is Monday, August 24 at Diamond Oaks with 9:30 Tee Times. If you still wish to play call Dick Gilberg or Dick Maxey to be put on an alternates list should space open up. September 28 is the date for the final Travel Event at Teal Bend. Signups are now being taken. Entry fees for both events are $55.00 with a check made out to TCMGC.

Timber Creek will host the Seventh Annual First-Tee Championship on the revised date of Saturday, September 12, 1:00pm shotgun start. This is a wonderful event and we are always in need of volunteers. Call Rodger Page or Phil Hart help give back to the game you love. Even if you can’t help out, you can come to the course and watch these kids play. And they can play!
Weekly Skins Sweeps: Here’s how you can make the job easier for the Pro-Shop to score the Skins game on Tuesdays. First understand how this is done. It requires a desk to spread out 40 some score cards and be uninterrupted. So someone else has to be at the front desk. Like the Handicap Committee they are not mind readers. So put both first and last names on the card. Put your handicap in the handicap box so they don’t have to go look it up. Put a G next to the handicap if you played from the gold tees. And be patient as there is not a lot of free time for the Pro Shop to figure these out so it might not always be posted on the Thursday following.
If you are signed up to play in a tournament and for some reason you cannot make it please be considerate and notify the Pro-Shop and our Tournament Chairman and let them know.
