Timber Creek Men’s Golf Club

E-Bulletin

Our greens are smooth again. They will hold a well placed shot. The weather has been perfect. No excuses for not playing.

Thanks Tom Gottdiner and Ron Bayless for directing a well run Autumn Leaves Tournament on Sept. 8. Tournament Co-Chairs, Bill Whitney & Leon Dean, report we paid 50% of the field which included low net scores in 2 flights and low putts in 2 flights. There were also 8 closest-to-the pin awards covering all par 3 holes. Credits won’t be in the Pro-Shop until the end of the month as our Treasurer is on vacation.

On September 12, 120 juniors, ages 12 to 18 played in the 7th annual First Tee Championship at Timber Creek. Low score for the boys was a 71. About 120 volunteers from SCR participated. Thanks to all who volunteered. There was a lightning delay of 45 minutes. The Awards dinner featured 6 boys and girls who spoke about their experience playing in the Wallmart Open at Pebble Beach the week before with seniors from the Champions Tour.

Sign up today for the second annual Member/Guest Tournament which is scheduled for Friday, Sept 25, 8:00am Shotgun. Congratulations to all 19 players who participated in the NCGA Team Match Play this summer. In our inaugural year in this event our team won their division and advanced to the “Sweet 16”among 120 teams in the playoffs. On September 10 Timber Creek played Table Mountain of Oroville in a very close match. Foe example: Tom Devitt sank a 50ft. putt on 17 for a par. Their player topped it with a 17ft. birdie putt. This was the difference

in the final score. We lost by a combined score of 19 to 17. We came that close to making the “Elite 8”. Our Pros, Mark Gouger and Ian Glass both played well and contributed many points to the team. Great effort guys! Thanks to Captain Bill Aaberg who played all 19 players and administered all the matches.

Kudos to Don Ebaugh who made his first hole-in-one! The magic happened on number 4, September 9, with an 11 wood. He will receive his award at our General Meeting, When any of you make a hole-in one you must fill out the form in the Pro Shop with a member witness signature. This does two things: gets your name in the paper and the award from the club. Without it you get neither.

Our next General Meeting is Wednesday, October 7. Required by our bylaws, the nominating committee will announce the slate of officers for our November Election. There can also be nominations from the floor at both the October and November meetings. The nominating committee, chosen by President Ray Zwemer, is Chairman Steve Rodriguez, Ed Lick and Joe Lavette. Vice President, Joey Mastrantonio has notified the Board that he will not be stepping up to the Presidency after his term expires.

Also we will need a Treasurer as Ed Steele is not staying on in 2010. Please contact the nominating committee if you can volunteer to fill an officer post.

And Speaking of Joey Mastrantonio, he is working on the December 2 Holiday Breakfast. Put it on your calendar. It will begin at 9:00am followed by a skills challenge out side.

We have a good chance to win the “Rose Cup” this year. The matches will be played at Wood Creek, Friday, October 16 and Saturday, October 17 at Timber Creek. We have the “Home Field Advantage” for the final round and we have done well when playing here in the past. Qualifying has been held already. Good Luck Team!

Jack Chittick, our Membership Chairman, reports that October will be the 2009 renewal period for the club and NCGA membership. Further information will be forthcoming.

Teal Bend is the site for the final Travel Event of the year. It is Monday, September 28 at 9:00am. All Travel Events are $55pp which includes green fees, range balls and prizes. Contact Dick Gilberg (789-8450) or Dick Maxey (773-9044).

Volunteers are needed for delivery of the new Association Governing Documents which will be printed by the end of this month. If you delivered the phone directories this year we ask for your help again. We need additional people too. It means knocking on doors and either leaving an envelope or, if no one is home, leaving a card on the door. Sign up on the sheet in the residence room or call PHIL HART at 771-8626.

The Oaks/Pines rotation will be on tap this month for morning players on Tuesday, Sept. 22. The posting computer will be defaulted to Oaks/Pines Blue Tees. Cards for this rotation will be available in the Pro Shop or you can print your own from the website.
