Men’s Golf

Roy Lloyd

First and foremost; there will be no meeting in January. The next meeting and first of the year is Wednesday, February 3, 2010. Mark it on your calendar now and plan to be there to meet the new guys that will be running things for the coming year. They are: Paul Wilmoth - President, Eddie Lewis - Vice President, Rodger Page - Secretary, and Ray Sylvia - Treasurer.

Before we get into the New Year, lets close out the old one and we did it in style with our December ‘meeting’. The final get together for the year was our annual Members Breakfast and Skills Challenge attended by nearly 200 members on December 2nd. President Ray Zwemer conducted a short business meeting, thanking all those who had assisted in guiding the Club through a pretty darn good year. He also handed out a hole-in-one flag to Ben Jackson for his recent ace. VP Joey Mastrantonio pretty much took over from then on and handed out raffle prizes that included something for everyone (almost). We closed the year with 360 members, a sound financial report, and knowing that we play on a course, that in a word, is excellent.

As you are all aware our last tournament for 2009, The Last Chance on December 8th had to be cancelled due to one awful cold snap that moved through at the same time. If you were signed up, your entry fee is on the books in the Pro Shop, go pick up a glove or a couple sleeves of balls! While we are talking tournaments, the next one will be the “Valentines Day” on Tuesday, February 9th.

Also, the Men’s Club will assist the Association again this year by helping to deliver the new directories, scheduled to happen January 8th through the 10th. If you can help, and we all can, contact Phil Hart prior to those dates.

For those that did not attend the last meeting, The Breakfast Bash, trophies were handed out to the winners of the Match Play Tournament and the Medal Play Tournament. Winners of the Match Play, considered to be the Club Championship were:

Club Champion --- Bill Aaberg
First Flight --- Bill Whitney
Second Flight --- Leon Dean
Third Flight --- Jack Armstrong
Fourth Flight --- John Jameson

Crystal trophies were handed out to all by Mark Gouger.

Winners of the Medal Play Tournament and also receiving Crystal Trophies from Mark were:
Championship Flight --- Hank Derner
Second Flight --- Rick Myhre
Third Flight --- Sam Simpson
Fourth Flight --- Herb Tom
Fifth Flight --- John Rowley
Gold Flight --- Joe Rodante

Winners of the four events at the Skills Challenge held after the Holiday Breakfast were:

Putting --- Don Carlson
Long Drive --- Bill Aaberg
Chipping --- Hank Derner
Closest to pin --- Herb Tom

Notice some repeats between the Challenge and the Champion ships? Practice makes perfect!

The following members have stepped up to the table and will be manning the various committees for the New Year:
Club Tournaments - Ernie Bell, Travel Tournaments - Dick Maxey, Website Master - Dick Maxey, NCGA - Bill Aaberg, Rules - Tom Devitt, Membership – Jack Ramos and Handicap – JR Moors.

If you can help in any of these areas contact the aforementioned chairmen and give some time to your club, try it! You’ll like it!!!!
