The results are in and posted on the North/South Tournament just completed
on August 9th. General Howard Cabazas led his Southern Rebels to a pretty
convincing victory over General Jerry (Stonewall) Jackson’s Yankee’s.
The final outcome was: the South – 76.5 and the North – 64.5.
The North can take heart in the fact that this is the first victory for
the South in about three years. Next up this month will be the trek to
Lincoln Hills next week on the 22nd. Ernie has exactly 60 players, so
he may have some last minute dropouts, give him a call and be a sub.
We want to be sure we have a full complement and bring that trophy back
to Roseville. Next up on the calendar will be Ernie’s Net Tournament
on the 23rd, the day after the Lincoln Hills victory. If you have never
played in this one, you should give it a try, good way to make some easy
money.
Coming early in September is the Ninth Annual First Tee Junior Golf Championship
set for Saturday, September 10th. As long as you’re thinking of
it, put this bulletin down and call either Phil Hart @771-8628 or Rodger
Page @ 771-3775 and be sure you are on the volunteer list. That’s
one way to have a front row seat for this exciting match featuring the
golf stars of tomorrow, and if you have never done it, you are in for
some WOW! Golf. Especially when you watch some 15 year-old hit it from
the back tees and land about 40 yards further than you can do from the
gold!
The Big Tournament is also set for September, this is the Club Championship
(Match Play, Flighted) which is set to start on Tuesday, the 13th. The
dates set aside for this one are the 13th, 15th, 20th, 22nd, and 23rd,
who knows? You may go all the way and have to hold all dates open (think
positive). If you do go all the way, you’ll pick up a very nice
Trophy at the Holiday Brunch in December.
You may want to check out a very worth charity tournament scheduled for
Saturday, September 17th. This one is called The First Annual Timber
Creek Classic, put on by the Semper Fi Fund whose mission is: 100% of
the proceeds from the Tournament will fund Scholarships and Aid for service
men and women from all branches of the service who have suffered life
altering wounds in Iraq and Afghanistan. Sun City Veterans who sign up
as a foursome will get four spots for the price of three. For more information
and to get signed up contact Gary Shaffer @ (916) 773-2587. This sounds
like a very worthwhile event and we can help in a big way by our support.
Tom Shively is still looking for a few good men to help run your club
in 2012. Give him a call @773-2587; you’ll be glad you did.
Next Meeting is September 7th, doors open before 8, coffee and pastries,
meeting promptly at 8:30, see you (and your foursome) there!
