The Sun City Men's Golf Club (now called Timber Creek Men's Golf Club)
became a Charter Club on December 5, 1995. The first Club President was
Don Haven.
1996 - The Club held ten
tournaments the first year. The Club Championship was held in August 1996.
There were a total of 59 players who participated in the four-day match play
event. The flight winners were: First - Herm Lehman, Second -
Art Dittrich and Third - John Pereira.
The First Annual Invitational (member/guest) was held October 3rd and 4th 1996.
There was a total of 48 teams divided into two flights.
George LaRoche and his guest won the Red Flight. The Blue Flight was won by Russ
Heffelfinger and his guest.
The club ended the year with 286 members.
1997 - Tom Ryan was elected Club President. Ten tournaments were held in 1997,
with the Club Championship being held in August. One hundred and twenty members
participated in seven flights plus the Championship flight. Al Spicci won the
1997 Club Championship.
A Member/Member Tournament was held on May 13thth and 15thth.
The Second Annual Invitational (member/guest) was held October 2nd and
3rd. Lew Ritter and his guest won the Red Flight and the Green
Flight was won by Ed Cardoza and his guest.
The club ended the year with 439 members.
1998 - Stu Schroeder was elected
Club President. Ten tournaments were held in 1998.
A Member/Member Tournament was held May 19th and 21st.
The First North/South Tournament was held June 23rd with
the results being announced on Thursday, June 25th at the mid-year
club social (featuring a putting contest) held on the terrace outside the Timbers.
The "South" won
bragging rights as they scratched out a narrow victory over the North.
The Club Championship was held in August. There were eight flights plus the
Championship flight. Ed Lick won the 1998 Club Championship.
The Third Annual Invitational (member/guest) was held in October. There were
70 teams divided into three flights. The First Flight was won by Eldon McClure
and his guest. Phil Hazelwood and his guest won the Second Flight and the
Third Flight was won by Howard Vonbergen and his guest.
A nine-hole group was formed and played weekly at the Sierra Pines Nine.
The club ended the year with 552 members.
1999 - Ed Cardoza was elected
president. Ten tournaments were held. The third annual Member/Member Tournament
was held in May, the second annual North/South was in June. The Club Championship
was held in August and Don Wilcox was the winner. The fourth Annual Invitational
(member/guest) was held on September 20th and Oct 1st.
144 played with Masa Nuki and his guest winging the First Flight and Ed Lewis
and his guest wining the Second Flight. The overall Low Gross
winners were Maurice Giesser and his guest.
The nine hole group had numerous tournaments including the Pro-Classic Tournament,
The Presidents Cup Challenge, and the Viagra Invitational.
The Club ended the year with 730 members.
2000 - Don Segale was elected
President. Don Wilcox won the Club Championship. The membership at the end
of the year was 758.
2001 - Ed Daley was elected
president. Ed Lick won the Club championship. This year approximately 150 members
split off and formed a separate 9-hole group. The membership at the end of
the year was 605.
2002 - Lyle Perry was elected
President: Rodger Page, Vice President; Bill Hagopian, Secretary;
and Larry Holloway, Treasurer. There were ten Club Tournaments and five NGCA
Qualifying Tournaments played. In the spring, Rodger Page won the Putting Championship
for the third year in a row. The Club Championship in the scratch
flight was won by Terry Snook. The other winners were First Flight, Jim Erskine;
Second Flight, Elmer Hunter; Third Flight, George Fisher; Fourth Flight, Al
Gilmore; Fifth Bob Horning; Sixth Flight, Herm Lehman; and Seventh Flight
Phil Whistler. The Seventh Annual Invitational was held Oct 3rd and
4th with 62 two-man teams competing. Maurice Giesser and his guest
were the over all winners. The membership at the end of the year stood at 562.
2003 - Rodger Page was the President;
Al Gilmore, Vice President; Roy Lloyd, Secretary and Don Hug, Treasurer. The
Club Championship in the scratch flight was won by Lary Banks. Other winners
were First Flight, Jack Powell; Second Flight, Jack McKim; Third Flight, Dean
Trapp; Fourth Flight, Bob Horning; Fifth Flight, Bob Murch; and Sixth Flight,
Frank Quinn The Eighth Annual Invitational was held Sept 18th and
19th with
42 two-man teams competing. Joe Rodriguez and his guest were the over all
winners. The membership at the end of the year stood at 449.
2004 - Al Gilmore was elected
President; Tom Shively, Vice President; Don Hug, Treasurer; and Rodger Page,
Secretary. Our Club Champion for the third time was Ed Lick. Flight winners
were: First Flight, Ben Jackson; Second Flight, Jerry Montgomery; Third Flight,
Joe Ban; Fourth Flight, Dave Smith; and the Fifth Flight was won by Yon Choi.
Trophies for all winners were presented at our Holiday Luncheon. Our Annual
Invitational Tournament was named "Hawaiian Breezes" and
was held in June. The events included a team buyout, pari-mutuel, and a shoot
out. The format consisted of four nine-hole events. Overall winners were
Ernie Bell and his guest. The membership at the end of the year was 423.
2005 - The Men's Club was renamed
the Timber Creek Men's Golf Club this year. Tom Shively was elected President;
Bill Whitney, Vice President; Jim Knight, Treasurer; and Roy Lloyd, Secretary.
Our Club Champion for the 4th time was Ed Lick. Flight winners were: Flight
1, Maurice Giesser; Flight 2, John Rowley; and Flight 3, Bruce Kurre. Our Stroke
Play Champion was Daryl Rasmussen. Trophies were awarded during our December
Holiday Breakfast. Our Timber Creek Classic Invitational theme was "Scottish
Fling" held in June and
featured a bagpiper to open the event and a Loch Ness monster "Nessie" at
our concluding banquet. The overall winners were John Jameson and Jere Habein.
The membership at the year end was 440.
2006 - Bill Whitney was elected
President; Roger Engels, Vice President; Phil Hart, Secretary; and Fran Papineau,
Treasurer. Bill Aaberg won the Club Championship. First Flight was won by Jerry
Lundblad, Second Flight by Rocky Giordano, Third Flight by Leon Dean, Fourth
Flight by John Jameson, and Fifth Flight by Al Cusimano. Our Stroke Play Champion
was Bill Whitney. The North South was won by the North and the Invitational,
Low Net was won by Ernie Bell and his guest while Low Gross was won by Bill
Aaberg and his guest. The putting contest was won by Chuck Krause. The membership
at the end of the year was 428.
2007 - Roger Engels was elected President; Phil Hart, Vice President; Roy Lloyd,
Secretary; and Don Hug, Treasurer. The Club Champion for the second consecutive
year was Bill Aaberg. Match play flight winners were: First Flight - Herb Tom,
Second Flight - Rocky Giordano, Third Flight - Dick Maxey, and 4th Flight -
Roger Engels. The Stroke Play Champion for the second year in a row was Bill
Whitney. Crystal trophies were awarded at our December Holiday Breakfast to
both the Stroke and Match Play winners. There was no Invitational Tournament
this year. The Putting Contest was won by two-time winner Jim Erskine. The
South was victorious in the North/South Tournament. The membership at year
end was 405.
2008 - Phil Hart was elected
President, Roy Lloyd Vice President, Rodger Page Secretary, and Don Hug Treasurer.
