Equitable Stroke Control (ESC) is implemented to avoid unwarranted inflation of the handicap index from an otherwise relatively normal round of golf. Equitable Stroke Control is applied to the handicap after first converting your index to your course handicap. Record on your score card the actual number of strokes for the hole, then apply the ESC before you post. For a recommended scorecard notation, see Scoring, Posting, and Error Correction on the Handicap Committee page. Always post your adjusted score.
