Golf Course
Jim Ferrin, G.C Superintendent, reported on work in several areas: Capital projects for next year taking some time. The replacement of sprinklers on Sierra Pines is going well. Rain days have slowed progress. Yardage markers will be applied to sprinklers soon. Other projects include irrigation work and planting on the left of the #11 tee on the Oaks. Over seeding of bent grass after aerification will be done later this month. Jim noted that we will not be restricted on water use do to our having ample supply of reclaimed water. Questions were asked of condition of the greens on 11 and 12. Jim indicated that as the growing season progresses these should improve. Areas of long grass or rough will be mowed as soon as mowers can get on the golf course. Work will continue this year on the refurbishment of the bunkers.
Proshop
Mark Gouger, Head Golf Professional, commented on a number of programs:
Adopt-a-hole a supplement to the RAMP but to be year around, sign-ups being taken in both pro shops; Spirit days coming in April 20-22, lots of activities and demo days;
March is March Madness in the Proshop and everything is on sale. Come in! The Timber Creek Golf Academy will start again in April. Marks’ Tip of the Month dealt with nervousness and using it to our advantage rather that disadvantage on the golf course...
Mark commented on the fiscal situation in the Proshop noting that January was a great month, February, not so good. However, when the sun comes out, people come to Timber Creek because it is arguably the finest golf course in the area. Mark and Jim were both thanked for their efforts on our behalf.
Special Guest
Ray introduced Herb Kristal, speaking for “Seniors Helping Our Roseville Schools”. Herb gave a brief presentation on the value of one on one participation with students that need adult guidance, motivation, tutoring and just plain help in their school work.
