General Meeting

May 6, 2009

Call to Order

Ray Zwemer, President, called the meeting to order at 8:30 am.

Quorum

Jack Chittick, Membership Chair, reported that there were 75 present, a quorum.

Minutes from previous meeting

The minutes of the meeting of April 1, 2009 were approved as submitted.

Golf Course

Jim Ferrin, G.C Superintendent, reported on work in several areas:  Greens are responding nicely from arification, top dressing.  He noted that the “course condition is reflecting the fruits of our labors”.  He noted that with the Kirby Markers installed we now have several ways of determining distances to the green (s).  Continue to up grade and define fairways, working on edging cart paths, removing gravel from bunkers and planting new plants.  Jim discussed a bit about how greens are maintained at various U.S. Open sites

Ray requested that an attempt be made to locate pins in relation to tee markers for the upcoming Men’s Club Championship.  Jim noted that it would be done.  A question was asked regarding condition of bunker on #6 of the Pines and Jim noted that that was being worked on today.

Proshop

Mark Gouger, Head Golf Professional, commented that Timber Creek is probably the finest conditioned golf course in the Sacramento Area.  He noted that golf passes go on sale in June and encouraged all to purchase one.  No increase in prices this year.  Has a new personal coaching program now in place. Stop in and see him.  Callaway has a demo day today offering great deals on driver/fairway woods combinations.

Marks’ Tip of the Month dealt with practice in bunkers and learning to test the sand with your feet and learning how to “splash” out of various sand conditions.

Special Guest

Mark introduced Todd Bunning a local chiropractor specializing in golf specific conditioning, injuries and exercises for better posture and flexibility.  Todd addressed a number of questions from the audience.

Treasurers Report

Ed Steele, Treasurer, presented the status of funds report showing a current balance in all accounts of $13,297.58.  The report was approved.

Committee Reports

Tournaments:

Club:  Leon Dean reported on the Stroke Play Championship, and noted that it would be a “T” score event and scores would be posted by the H/C committee.  He also announced that the Member/Member Tournament would be June 9th and 10th and that the two day event would involve a luncheon, shoot out and 4 different formats, one for each 9 holes.

Ray Announced the Sun City Cup and encouraged sign ups this will take place at Lincoln Hill, Hills Course on June 22nd at cost of $60.  Fee includes golf, cart, range balls, prizes and BBQ lunch.

Putting Championship:  Rodger Page announced that the Annual Putting Championship was won by Don Hug.  He congratulated him and presented that newly engraved trophy. Rodger thanked Jim Ferrin for preparation of the green, Phil and Judy Hart for help in registration and scoring and Ed Daley for getting the Pizza at a reduced rate.

Sun City Roseville Foundation Golf Tournament:  Rodger Page, Chair announced the status of hole sponsors and donations received, and encouraged folks to sign up, especially as 4-somes.  He thanked Joey Mastrantonio, Steve Rodriguez and Gary Lee for their help in getting donations.

Travel:  Dick Gilberg noted that the next event will be 6/29 at Ancil Hoffman.  Sign ups would begin soon.

Web Site:  Dick commented on the use of the web site concentrating and displaying “golf” on the menu bar and the various categories that can be displayed.

Ray thanked Dick and Jack Chittick for manning the Men’s Club table during Spirit Days.

NCGA:  Bill Aaberg noted that Ed Lick and Joe Lavette would be playing in the Sr. Net at Mather on the 7th.  The Sacramento Area Zone Team of Hank Derner, Tom Devitt, Ed Lick and Jim Knight would be playing on May 18th and 19th.  The Team Match Play events will be June 25, Timber Creek at Ancil Hoffman. July 9 Timber Creek at Swenson Park, July 23 Timber Creek at Turkey Creek. July 30 Turkey Creek at Timber Creek. August 6 Ancil Hoffman at Timber Creek. August 13 Swenson Park at Timber Creek.  Teams to be decided.  The Qualifier for the Sr. 4 Ball will be June 2nd.

Rules:  Tom Devitt reported the identification of a golf ball being the responsibility of the player, and noted several possible cases where penalties might be incurred if identification not able to be determined.  Tom also noted a general rule in taking relief:  if no penalty is involved, relief is one club length, if a penalty is involved, relief is two club lengths.

Membership:  Jack Chittick noted that there are 360 members and we would like to have more.  We are the recruiters.  Go out and recruit.

Handicaps:  Paul Wilmoth noted there is a new member on the committee, Jerry Jackson.   He also noted that there is still trouble with the posting computer at the Pines and asked every one to post at the Timber Creek computer or on line.

Golf Committee:   Martin Wolf, Chair, reported that their meeting would be at 2:00pm in the Aspen Room.  He commented on issues that Jim Ferrin is working on.

RAMP, Resident Assisted Maintenance Program:  Joe Lavette reported that Bill Mathews will coordinate the trespasser program.  The RAMP schedule for May is Lakes, Pines, Oaks at 7:00.

Old Business:  None

New Business:  Ray announced that there are some minor changes that should be made to the club by laws and that they would be done when the club is re-chartered in 2010.

Door Prizes:  Ray announced Heeeeeres Joey, and there were a number of door prizes awarded.
