Proshop

The trip last year resulted in some real cost savings on merchandise for the pro shop and the Association through discount purchases; Mark mentioned good deals on Antigua shirts and shorts now on sale; August is "Hybrid Month"; The W5/Jonas reservation system is now up and running resulting in better utilization of the tee sheet vacancies. Mark’s "Tip of the Month" dealt with taking your practice swing at the range to the golf course.
Golf Course
Deepak Lal, Assistant G.C Superintendent, reported on work in several areas: This time of year, work is concentrated on trying to keep up with the hot dry conditions, sand bunkers, installation of additional French Drains, and repair of bridges with redwood planking.

Web Site: Dick Maxey commented that he was looking forward to taking on the web site responsibilities and that we should all be grateful for the work that Dick Gilberg has done in setting up the web site.
NCGA: Bill Aaberg noted that the Sacramento
Area Zone Team Knight/ Lick and Seo/ Pabis were playing today August 5,
2009. If they qualify at the
regional, they advance to the Championship at Poppy Ridge Golf Course,
Livermore, California on September 14 & 15.
The Team Match Play events are going well. We have a chance of moving into first place if we win tomorrow. Bill brought with him some samples of oversized divot sand bottles and encouraged every one to take part in the ongoing maintenance of our Golf Courses.
Rules: Tom Devitt reported on differences in some of the rules in Match play verses stroke play and encouraged everyone to be familiar with them as two of our next 7 events will be match play. Teeing up outside of the tee markers in Match play may require the player to hit again, no penalty. The same offense in stroke play results in a 2 stroke penalty. Playing out of turn in match play may result in being required to hit over, in stroke play may result in a two stroke penalty. If player is conceded a putt, he must pick up rather than putting out which may be deemed as providing information to his partner.
Membership: Ray reported for Jack Chittick that there are 361 members. He also noted that Jack is retiring, but is training Jack Ramos to take over membership duties. Ray introduced Jack to the members.
Handicaps: Paul Wilmoth noted he is still seeing cards with only one name and several other problems with score cards. The committee would ask that when playing with a guest, a "g" might be used to designate the guest so the H/C committee would not have to look for his record. He continues to monitor the problem of posting scores that are combined for one 18 hole score. Paul announced he is retiring at the end of his term.
Golf Committee: Martin Wolf, Chair, reported on several items at the previous meeting, July 1st: A resident had asked about the possibility of having a practice fairway bunker. For several reasons, this was rejected (again); a resident noted that there are a number of discrepancies in yardages on the score cards vs. the NCGA yardages. Mark is looking into this prior to the purchase of the next batch of cards; It was also noted that there are discrepancies between the tee monument rock listing and the score cards as well as on the course yardage (Kirby Markers) and red white and blue posts. All of these will be looked at by the golf committee. Mark Gouger noted that the single rider cart had been approved by the Board of Directors but there was some hesitancy in going ahead with it in these economic times and asked for a recommendation from the golf committee. Following a motion, second, to proceed, and discussion, the motion was adopted.
Martin noted that there are 4 openings on the committee and that there are 9 applicants who would be interviewed the 3rd week of August.
