General Meeting

November 4, 2009

Call to Order

Ray Zwemer, President, called the meeting to order at 8:30 am.

 

Quorum

There were 89 present, a quorum.

 

Hole-In-One

Award to Ken Hasemann, Lakes, hole #6, September 29th. Flag and $50 check were presented.

 

Minutes from previous meeting

The minutes of the meeting of October 7, 2009 were approved as submitted.

 

Golf Course

Jim Ferrin reported on the continued work to improve playability, top dressing, bunker improvements.  Fallen tree removal and replacement.  Jim noted that we would soon be having frost delays and that he would endeavor to have us out by 9:00 or 9:30 on these days.  A member voiced a concern regarding the “ring around the hole after it is newly set.  Jim acknowledged that additional training is needed.  Jim commented on the planting on the creek across #11 and noted that after the plants were established, hazard stakes would be removed allowing play from this area.  A member voiced concern over #13 always being roped off.  Jim noted that this would be soon be opened up and noted that the bark is going to be replaced by walnut shells.  He also noted that the fairways would be gradually widened and some of the curvy features reduced.

 

Pro Shop

Mark Gouger reported that he is building up the proshop with new equipment (Mizuno) and apparel for the holiday season and the open house and sale December 2nd.  There will be additional demo days with Cobra and Calloway.  Also on the second will be the Skill Challenge with lots of equipment to try out or use.  Ray remarked that the Rose Cup was a great success.

 

Treasurers Report

Ed Steele, Treasurer, presented the status of funds report showing a current balance in all accounts of $10,254.97 as of October 22, 2009.  The report was approved as presented.

 

Committee Reports

 

Nominations:

Joe Lavette presented the slate of officers for 2010 as follows:

         President                 Paul Wilmoth

         Vice President      Eddie Lewis

                  Secretary                 Rodger Page

                  Treasurer                 Ray Sylvia

Without further nominations, each was elected to serve for the following year.

 

 

Club Tournaments:

 

Bill Whitney reported on the Club Championship noting that there were 65 entrants in 5 flights and that Bill Aaberg was the new Club Champion.

 

The next Tournament will be the Annual Turkey Shoot on November 10th.  Bill Mathews and Martin Wolf will be the co-chairs.

 

Travel:

Dick Gilberg reported on the success of the 2009 travel events and statistics were presented on the overhead.  Questionnaire was sent out to members about 2010 choices. Voted not to play were Dark Horse and Ancil Hoffman.  Candidates for play were Plumas Lakes, Whitney Oaks and Cherry Island.  Will try to set up 6 events, with 3 on Monday and 3 on Thursday and will coordinate with He and She and Good Guys schedules.  Ray recognized the work Dick Gilberg and Dick Maxey have done on the travel events.

NCGA: 

Bill Aaberg reported on the NCGA team event that our 12 man team made the final 16 teams competition but lost to Table Mountain.  Ray thanked the 19 members that participated.

 

Rules:

Tom Devitt noted that in match play, if a ball being putted, strikes another ball on the putting surface, there is no penalty.  Tom also commented on winter rules, lift, clean, and place (within 12”), but having done so the ball is now in play and cannot be done again.  In addition, lift, clean, and place shall be preceded by marking with a tee or other object, not bumped with the club to improve the lie. Bumping is deemed to be a stroke.

 

Membership:  

Ray reported for Jack Chittick that there are 360 members.  Ray noted the deadline for renewal is December 1st and that there is a $10 fee for renewal after that.

 

Handicaps: 

Paul Wilmoth reported that J.R. Moores will be the new handicap chair.  Paul also reported on a policy for dealing with improper posting of scores:

 

                  The new rule for players posting 3 or more strokes over what they shot:

 

            1. If a player posts a higher score than what he shot by 3 strokes or more,

                we will change his score to the score he shot & the Handicap Chairman

                will call him

 

            2. If within 2 months he does it again he will be given a "P" score plus

                a warning

 

            3. If within the next 2 months he does it again, he cannot play in the

                next 3 tournaments plus he cannot play in the sweeps and will be

                given a "P" score.

 

 

Golf Committee:

Roger Tovey, Chair reminded everyone about the Golf Committee Meeting today at 2:00 pm and thanked Joe Lavette for serving as RAMP chair for the last 6 years.  Roger discussed very briefly the concern over the water fall on #18, but noted that it was too early for any vote on a plan.  There is no plan at this point in time.

 

Old Business: 

Ray thanked Phil Hart and all those that helped in the distribution of association documents and noted that we might be asked to repeat the process for the new directory in the spring.

 

New Business:  

Holiday Party: VP Joey Mastrantonio thanked those that helped with the sign ups.  He noted that this would be a complete sit down breakfast with door prizes and surprises, with the skills challenge to follow.  And don’t forget the pro shop open house with wine, cheese and great deals at 5:00 pm.

 

Door Prizes: 

The club under the direction of Joey Mastrantonio gave out a number of door prizes.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 am.
