Timber Creek Men’s Golf Club

General Meeting

 

May 5, 2010

 

Call to Order

Paul Wilmoth, President, called the meeting to order at 8:30 am.

 

Quorum

“It was a bright and sunny morning” and Joe Lavette reported that there were 75 members present, a quorum.

 

Minutes from previous meeting

The minutes of the meeting of April 7, 2010 were approved as submitted.

 

Golf Course

Jim Ferrin, GC Superintendent, reported several items as follows:

The Greens are almost back after Aerification and almost down to the height he would like, Bunkers will be worked on, Weed control is in process, some vertidrain work being done in specific areas to increase percolation.  In response to a question, Jim noted that the plants in the creek will be maintained at a height near where they are now, and the creek will continue to be “an environmental area”. He also noted that the Goose Patrol has done a good job, but now must take a breather while the baby geese are babies.

 

Pro Shop

Mark Gouger, Head Golf Professional, May is full of tournaments and that it is “short game” month with wedges and putters being on sale.  In addition, there is a shirt sale in progress.  Buy one and get a second at 50% off.  Mark also noted that the Haggin Oaks Golf show was a real success for all, us included.

 

Special Guest

Paul introduced Angie Dixon from the 1st Tee Program who gave a nice presentation on the program, what it means to the kids and how it can affect them in their later life, with emphasis on “core values and life skills”.  She thanked the members for their support and hope that we would offer that same support this year in the two traditional events, The 4th Annual Hi Five Scholarship event, July 16 and the 8th Championship Tournament at Timber Creek, September 11th.    

 

Treasurers Report

Ray Sylvia presented the Treasurer’s Report dated April 22, 2010 showing a total balance of $11,405.54. The Report was accepted as presented.

Committee Reports

 

Club Tournaments:

 

Ernie Bell, Chair, reported that the Spring Swing April 13th was a great event.  The Putting Tournament was won by Jack McKinney who edged out Jon Read for the Crown. It was a great day with great friends and pizza.  He thanks all who helped.  Sign-ups are now underway for the Annual Stroke Play Championship, May 11th and 13th.   He will make the pairings after Friday the 7th.  Ernie also mentioned a Charity event at Timber Creek in support of “The Gathering Inn” a program that supports the homeless in the south Placer County Area.  And he again stressed the need for players in the Sun City Cup with Lincoln Hills on the 21st. 

Dick Mann spoke about the Member/Member coming in June, and hoped that we would have a full field for this event.  There will be a different format for each 9 holes and a “horserace”. Pick your own partner.

 

Travel:

Dick Maxey, Chair, stated that the 1st event of the year at Cherry Island on April, 29th.  Was a good event, with nice weather.  The next event is at Teal Bend, May 27th.

 

Web Site:

Dick Maxey, Manager, just commented there are no problems with the site and he is making addition to information on the site..

 

NCGA: 

Bill Aaberg, Chair, announced that the Senior Net Regional Qualifying would be May 13th and the East Sacramento Area Zone Regional Qualifying would be May 27th and 28th.  The Senior 4 Ball will be June 8th and Bill will announce this soon.

Bill also commented on the NCGA Team Match play in the summer. Timber Creek will be in a division with Ancil Hoffman, Haggin Oaks and Turkey Creek, there are some very tentative dates but they are still being worked.     

 

Rules:

Tom Devitt, Chair, discussed the penalty for hitting the wrong ball, 2 strokes in stroke play and you must replay from the proper position and prior to the next hole or the result is a DQ.  In match play, the penalty is loss of hole.  He also discussed the penalty for your ball hitting other players or equipment.  If the players own equipment, or partner, 1 stroke, if an opponent, no penalty.  Tom also noted, in response to a concern regarding play from French drains, that this is covered on the score card and are played as ground under repair.

 

Membership:  

Jack Ramos announced that we have 330 members. 

                       

Handicaps: 

JR Moors, Chair noted we are still having posting problems through the NCGA.  NCGA reps are supposed to be here in a couple of weeks to install a new computer and try and resolve this posting issue.

 

Golf Committee:

Roger Tovey, Chair noted that we are in need of volunteers for the RAMP and the Evening Patrol Committees. These programs are chaired by Sandy Wahlstrom and Judith Shively respectively and are off to a good start.  Also, that the Golf Committee Meeting would be at 2:00 PM, today in the Aspen Room.  

 

Old Business: 

 

By-laws:  Rodger Page noted that the By-laws with the corrected Name of the club should be approved by the CCC on Thursday, and as soon as we have them back, they will be forwarded to Dick Maxey for posting.  They will also be posted on the Bulletin Board in the golfer’s room.

      

New Business:  

Bill Whitney discussed the 13th Annual Foundation Golf Tournament, June 4th.  The cause is a good one because it is for us.  The Foundation is all about “Neighbors Helping Neighbors”

 

Door Prizes: 

Joe Lavette and Eddie Lewis gave out the door prizes.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 9:20 am.
