General Meeting

 

August 4, 2010

 

Call to Order

Paul Wilmoth, President, called the meeting to order at 8:30 am.

 

Quorum

Joe Lavette reported for Jack Ramos that there were 74 in attendance, a quorum.

 

Minutes from previous meeting

The minutes of the meeting of July 7, 2010 were approved as submitted.

 

Golf Course

Deepak Lal reported for Jim Ferrin on a number of issues regarding the Golf Course, stressed areas and areas marked as ground under repair.  He also noted that the greens would be arified August 23rd, 24th and 25th.  In answer to a question, Deepak noted that the #13 fairway is roped off except on certain play days due to the difficulty in maintaining this particular fairway. A second question was in regards to the front entrance pond and what is going on.  He responded that this is a two or three month overhaul of the water feature.

 

Pro Shop

Mark Gouger, Head Golf Professional reported a bit of bad news in that a players " a players driver and his wife's bag of clubs were stolen from his golf cart parked in his garage while they were unloading groceries for a couple of minutes. Mark implied that this could have been done by a Sun City resident as it happened so fast.  Close garage door when you are unloading car and he cautioned all of us to be diligent and observant.   Mark discussed the upcoming AAU Championships coming in October, noting that this would be Sanctioned or Official National AAU Senior Event.  He is very enthusiastic on the event and feels that this will be a great time for us to showcase Sun City Roseville.  He displayed a new Òsoaker hatÓ at a cost of $24.99.  His Swing thought for the day was in regard to relaxing during the swing.  Practice keeping tension out of the swing.  In answer to a question regarding golf losses for the 2009/2010 year ended, Mark responded with a description of various things he is doing to promote both resident and non-resident play, but paying particular attention to the fact that resident play time is of vital importance to all of us as residents.  He noted that the ÒPlayers club continues to of value but the anticipated number of 75 or more has not happened and the number seems to stay in the 45 member range.  He also noted that Pro Shop sales are also down, both of these area due in large part to the economy. He continues to explore ways to increase sales.  Most of all, he encouraged us to ..  Keep Playing!!!!!

 

 

Treasurers Report

Ray Sylvia presented the TreasurerÕs Report dated July 20, 2010 showing a total balance of $9200.89. In response to a question, Ray noted that this balance would be reduced to a balance of $2500-$3000.00 by the end of the year.  The Report was accepted as presented.

 

Hole-In-One

Paul presented a check and hole-in-one flag to Ed Daley, who aced #6 of the Lakes on July 11, 2010.  Congratulations Ed.  It was noted that this is EdÕs 8th hole in one and the 3rd on #6.

 

 

 

Committee Reports

 

Club Tournaments:

 

Ernie Bell, Chair, reported on several events and thanked those that had helped with each one.  He then commented on the Annual North/South.  Sign-up are being taken for the event the 10th of August.  He also mentioned the Member/Guest September 24th and the Club Championship in October.  He discussed the 4th Tuesday tournaments and indicated that not many were signing up.  Also the Thursday 3 best ball team events with a 26 max handicap playing from the blue tees and invited all to play.

 

Travel:

Dick Maxey, Chair, stated that next event will be on August 30th at Whitney Oaks.  Should be a great day.

 

Wed Site:

Dick Maxey, Manager commented the web site is up to date.

 

NCGA: 

Bill Aaberg, Chair, reported that the Senior 4 Ball Qualifications were going on today and if our guys qualified, our budget would be in trouble. He also commented on the team matches.  We have won 2 and lost 2 with 2 to play.  Bill also remarked on how diligent and careful Martin Wolf is in repairing ball marks on greens and that we should all be so careful.

 

Rules:

Tom Devitt, Chair, reported that there were no changes to the Rules this month.  He did note that in taking a drop from ground under repair or other instances, relief is to the nearest point, which might not be the most advantageous point.

 

Membership:  

Jack Ramos reported that we had lost one member due to death, and had gained 3 new members for a total of 334. 

                                                                                                                           

Handicaps: 

JR Moors, Chair, reported that everything is running along smoothly except for the continuous problem of not being able to add or subtract accurately, and getting the right players on the score card.  He referred to one card that had a member listed, who did not post and on further investigation determined that the player in question had actually been in Colorado hiking on that day.  Go Figure!

 

Golf Committee:

Roger Tovey, Chair noted that the golf course inspections have been going well and our courses are in great condition.  TodayÕs meeting at 2:00 PM would have discussion on tee markers. (Ed. Note.  At the Golf committee meeting, it was noted that one of the rock monuments #16 would be replaced with proper yardages and in general, course yardages would be set to agree with the rock monuments, and score cards would be set with the correct yardages so that all markings should agree.  In addition, Brass plates with the Tee yardages will be purchased and placed at the NCGA markers). 

 

Old Business:

         The FedEx Trophy will be discussed at a future council meeting

 

New Business:  

Rodger Commented on the need for volunteers for the 1st Tee Championship, September 11th:

 

Door Prizes: 

Joe Lavette and Eddie Lewis gave out the door prizes.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 am.
