Meeting
November 3, 2010
Call to Order
Paul Wilmoth, President, called the meeting to order at 8:30 am.
Quorum
Joe Lavette reporting for Jack Ramos reported there were 72 members in attendance, a quorum.
Minutes from previous
meeting
The minutes of the meeting of October 6, 2010 were approved as submitted.
Golf Course
Jim Ferrin, Golf Course Superintendent and Director of Maintenance discussed a number of issues regarding the Golf Course. He noted that the RAMP season is finished, thanked all who participated and reminded all to continue to use their sand bottles and especially to drive carefully in wet areas. Arification an over seeding of fairways is being completed. Continue to work on improving drainage in problem wet areas, # 3 rough left side on fairway near the green. He noted that a volunteer group will be painting the Tee Monuments on Thursday the 4th. The Brass Tee Marker Plates are on order and should be installed by February. He is starting a new program on the greens to benefit the bent grass and reduce the Poana grasses. The work on the front ponds is progressing; the contract work has been completed and his crews are doing the final work. He believes that everyone will be pleased when the work is completed in a few more weeks. Jim reported that the Croquet Court being built at Sierra Pines is coming along good. He is working on the Driving Range this week, with the hope that the use of the range will be from grass, not mats as much as possible during the winter.
Ans. To Questions:
ÒPondÓ in #1 Lakes fairway has been eliminated with new drain,
Wet area on #3 Lakes left side a concern and will be addressed,
Areas of grass that were replanted, i.e. #10 Lakes will be over-seeded and will continue to improve.
Pro Shop
Mark Gouger, Head Golf Professional announced that there would be a shot gun start at 9:00 am on Thanksgiving. He discussed the Wine & Cheese pro shop event on December 1st, and the Skills Challenge after the Breakfast that day. He noted that the yardage for the closest to the pin would be 145 yds.
Mark noted that there is a series of Video ÒTips for the MonthÓ on the website. This monthÕs tip has to do with chipping.
Treasurers Report
Ray Sylvia presented the TreasurerÕs Report dated October 22, 2010 showing a total cash balance of $19,132.59. He also noted that this balance contains renewal of dues receipts which have not been sent to the NCGA as of yet. The Report was accepted as presented.
Hole-In-One
Hole in one Awards were presented to Fred Harris, #6 of the Lakes on September 7th and Steve Rodriguez who aced # 14 on the Oaks on October 21. Congratulations
Paul noted that it was very
important for members to take responsibility of following the guidelines in
reporting their ace. Notify the
President or VP of the Ace.
Committee Reports
Club Tournaments:
Ernie Bell, Chair Announced that Jack Anderson was the new Match Play Club Champion, Congratulations Jack. Ernie was disappointed that so few competed and asked for suggestions to increase participation. He announced that there were 140 signed up for the Turkey shoot. Ray Zwemer, John Rowley and he were working to finalize plans for the Timber Creek Cup.
Travel:
Dick Maxey, Chair, said that he is working on a schedule for next year and that a decision had been made to allow 2 of these events to be included in the TCC. He hoped that this would increase participation.
Wed Site:
Dick Maxey, Manager is working to update the website.
NCGA: No Report.
Rules:
Tom Devitt, Chair, discussed preferred lies to go into effect Sunday, November 7th. If you are in a glo ball event Saturday night you can take advantage of this after some time after midnight. By using a tape measure he also demonstrated what is meant by 12 inches, it is this long, not thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis long. He also note that the proper procedure is Mark, lift, clean if desired, and place, through the green not in a bunker or hazard. Kicking does not constitute the above.
Membership:
Jack Ramos reported that we have 195 members that have renewed, 4 new members and 5 who have indicated that they will not renew.
Handicaps: No Report
Golf Committee:
Fred Haseley, Chair reported about repainting the tee box rocks starting the 4th. He also commented on the main putting green, that he will be taking a proposal to the Finance Committee to enlarge the putting green. An est. of cost might be for 2000 sq. ft. enlargement might cost $12,000. The next meeting will be today at 2:00 pm.
Old Business:
Eddie Lewis reported on the December breakfast meeting and hoped all would attend this last meeting of the year for the club. 8:00 am for no host bar and 9:00 breakfast with the Skills Challenge to follow.

Paul asked for nominations from the floor, hearing none, a motion was made seconded and adopted to elect the slate of officers as presented for the ensuing year.
Door Prizes:
Ed Lick, Jack Ramos, and Dick Maxey gave out the door prizes.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:35 am.
